After receiving a BFA from East Carolina University, Wilfred moved to New York where he studied painting at Parsons School of Design. There he earned an MFA under the tutelage of Paul Resika, Leland Bell, John Heliker and Robert Deniro Sr., along with many other prominent visiting artists.
Wilfred continued to develop his painting in San Francisco and began exhibiting professionally at Mulligan Shanoski Gallery where he participated in several group and one man shows.
He returned to the south in 1998 to the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Wilfred resides in Mt. Pleasant near Charleston. He has been asked to exhibit in numerous galleries throughout the southeast.
Wilfred creates a stage in his paintings where the objects represented can coexist harmoniously. His work demonstrates his love for the primitive as well as his extensive art education. This combination infuses his work with a surprising clarity in an unexpected world.
